This is an important time to choose your pediatrician and prepare your family and home for new member to join you. Have regular visits to your obstetrician and schedule a prenatal office interview with your chosen pediatrician.
Newborns and infants are seen in our office monthly, at first, then every 2-3 months until they are two years old. Following the vaccine schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics will help to keep your child healthy.
Toddlers are seen in our office every 3-6 months when under two years old, but then they are seen annually. Along with screening for developmental disorders, it is common to discuss nutrition, development, and behaviors during these office visits.
It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that the school aged child be seen by their pediatrician annually. Upon school entry they will receive immunization boosters, a hearing and vision screen, and an evaluation of their general nutrition. Safety and injury prevention are common topics discussed during these visits. By all means children’s health is our top priority.
It is extremely important for adolescents to continue to be seen by their pediatrician annually. Their mental health, stress, and coping skills become an important discussion during these visits, but they will also receive adolescent immunizations, another hearing screen during early adolescence, and a lipid screening test as appropriate. It is common for parents to be asked to step out of the room during these visits, so the health care provider can have a discussion with your teen in private.
After you turn 18 years old, your health care information becomes private. With this in mind, if you want your parents to continue to have access to this information, you can sign a consent for them to receive it.
